Flood-affected farmers get assistance
Within a week's time, farmers affected by the recent flood rains in the eastern parishes of Portland and St Thomas are to receive Government assistance towards rehabilitating their farms and restoring their livelihoods.
This was announced yesterday by Minister without Portfolio in the Ministry of Industry Commerce, Agriculture and Fisheries, JC Hutchinson, as he toured sections of the flood ravaged areas in Portland.
Noting that current estimates indicate a total of over $100 Million worth of damage, Minister Hutchinson told farmers at a meeting in Fellowship, that it was "heart-rending" to see the kind of damage that had been wreaked and assured them that the Government would assist all affected farmers.
