Waste construction material being discarded at August Town dump site
Chief Technical Officer of the National Solid Waste Management Authority, Audley Gordon, said that they have discovered that hundreds of trucks have been discarding waste construction material on the dump site at Bedward Garden in August Town, St Andrew.
“Just three weeks ago, we were on the dump site in Bedward Gardens, we discovered hundreds of trucks with loads of material, mainly building material, were being dumped there illegally,” Gordon said.
“That has been pretty much a business in the community. With the help of the police we were able to increase patrol and vigilance and that has pretty much come to a halt.”
Gordon explained said that they have identified the culprit as a contracting firm working at the University of the West Indies.
“And we have been able to pull samples from the dump sites, match it with samples on the construction site and clearly it shows that the contracting firm is culpable,” Gordon said.
