PORTIA'S LAST STAND ... PNP president runs in final internal election

The future of the once-socialist People's National Party (PNP) has been placed in the hands of 3,400 delegates who will vote for members of the top leadership for the first time in eight years.

The elections, which take place at the National Arena in Kingston, will see incumbent Portia Simpson Miller facing-off against Dr Karl Blythe for the party's presidency.

Simpson Miller beat Blythe, Dr Peter Phillips and Dr Omar Davies to become party president in 2006. However, Blythe came out of retirement following the PNP's shocking general election loss in February.
