Gun and $9 million worth of ganja seized in Trelawny
Police officers assigned to the Narcotics Division, the Praedial Larceny Prevention Unit (PLPU), the Trelawny Operation Support Team and other divisions in Area One seized a firearm during a drug bust in Wiltshire district, Trelawny, yesterday.
Reports are that between 11 a.m. and 1:15 p.m., the officers carried out a search of a 40-foot container found on a premises in the parish. One 9mm Glock pistol with a magazine containing sixteen 9mm rounds of ammunition and 47 knitted bags of compressed ganja weighing approximately 1,700 pounds were seized. The drug has an estimated street value of more than $9 million.
The police say they believe the illicit drug was destined for Haiti as part of the drugs-for-guns-trade.
Three persons were taken into custody in relation to the seizure. However, their identities are being withheld pending further investigations.
