MAPPING MATHEW: St Mary residents protest damage to water pipe
A group of a residents in the community of Front Tier, Phase 1, which is situated close to Pagee Fishing Village in Port Maria, were visibly irate after a backhoe burst a stand pipe while cleaning a drain in the community yesterday.
One resident told THE STAR that the pipe supplies Front Tier and neighbouring communities such as Islington.
"People in the community and all round dem area come get water here for a very long time now," Talbert Scott said.
"The water cannot mount the hill so will always out of water. The water pressure is always low."
Meanwhile, fisherfolk along the Pagee Fishing Village have secured their boats in preparation for the arrival of Hurricane Matthew.
A 74 year old Fisher told THE STAR that he has seen every hurricane since Charlie in 1951.
"I have boat called Golden Girl and we tie it up and a watch now," Bertlyn Sterling said.
