Student stabbed after trying to stop fight

A grade 10 student who attends the Penwood High School in Kingston was stabbed yesterday after allegedly trying to stop a fight between two other students.

Kemar Small, 16, was stabbed in the chest and in his abdomen. He is now admitted at the Kingston Public Hospital.

THE STAR understands that Small, whose lung was punctured, has since done an X-ray.

His mother, Dionne Rennie, told THE STAR that her son was not the one who was involved in the fight, and she does not understand why he was targeted.

"Mi upset because a not even him did a fight. A him friend and another youth a fight, and him part dem. Di bwoy run pass the one weh him a fight and come stab me pickney," Rennie said.

When the news team contacted the school's principal, Donna McLaren, she declined to give a comment on the matter.

However, Inspector Sean March, who is attached to the Olympic Gardens Police Station, said that at about 2 p.m., there was a dispute between two schoolboys when one was stabbed.

He added that the student, who is accused of the stabbing, ran from the scene.

But Rennie said that she is very angry at the school because no one made an effort to contact her to inform her about the incident.

"All a dem have Shanique [her daughter] number, and dem not even call her. Is a student from the school call her and tell her seh Buggsy get stab up," she said.
