Lawyer's car stolen at court

The St Catherine North police have launched an investigation in the theft of an attorney's car while it was in the precincts of the Spanish Town Courthouse.

It was revealed that at about 1 p.m. yesterday, the attorney emerged from the court to see an empty space in the spot where she had parked her Toyota Axio.

"I am saddened by the loss of my car and to know that it was parked in close proximity to the courthouse. I think it was well-timed with the rain and less security on the road; it was being tracked until we lost the signal," said the attorney, who did not wish to be identified.

She told THE STAR that security needs to be intensified in the perimeter of the courthouse.

"It's not the first as another lawyer had her vehicle stolen here last year. I have even witnessed a man running with gunshot wounds; we need more security," she said.

Meanwhile, commanding officer for the St Catherine Police Division, Senior Superintendent Beau Rigabie, said there is an ongoing investigation into the matter.

"The police have received a report in a case of larceny of a motor car which occurred in the vicinity of the courthouse. The investigation is progressing and there are strategies being pursued to address the security concerns," Rigabie said
