Man stabbed metres from police station

A man was murdered across the road from the Barnett Street Police Station in Montego Bay on Tuesday morning.

The dead man has been identified as 29-year-old Bryan Johns, a labourer of Gutters district, also in St James.

His killer, who was held by the police immediately after he committed the act, is now in custody but has not been identified by the police.

"When a man has the guts to commit murder almost on the door steps of a police station, it tells you that these guys are heartless," a policeman told THE STAR. "I believe some of these killers are crazy people who need mental help."

VERBAL ALTERCATION

According to reports, at approximately 11:36 a.m., Johns was standing in front of a popular eatery across the road from the police station, when a verbal altercation with another man began. A knife was brandished and Johns was stabbed several times.

A team of policemen, who was standing outside the police station, ran across the road to assist Johns, who was covered in blood.

He was rushed to the Cornwall Regional Hospital, where he was pronounced dead on arrival.

Johns' attacker, who made no attempts to flee the scene, was held and the weapon taken from him. He was slated to be questioned before charges are laid against him.

Despite being a heavily policed area, Barnett Street has seen a number of murders in recent times.
