Cops reject $122 per day salary increase

The Government has reportedly offered to pay cops an average salary increase of $122  per day over the next four years.

The proposed increase would apply to sergeants, corporals and constables. The offer has been rejected by the Jamaica Police Federation, which represents cops up to the rank of inspector.

Federation chairman Corporal Arleen McBean said the members of the Jamaica Constabulary Force have been experiencing high levels of destitution.

With the government failing to put an improved offer on the table, the nation's policemen and women have vowed to step up their claims to improved wages and salaries.

Arguing that enough is enough, the Federation has called a series of meetings to discuss its next steps.

"It is inconceivable that the Government of Jamaica, believes that an overworked and underpaid police force portrays prosperity in an uncertain economic environment. This we classify as a mockery encapsulated with lip service and empty promises," the Federation said.
