MoBay Metro resumes service
The Montego Bay Metro Company Ltd (MoBay Metro) has resumed service in a limited capacity.
This comes after industrial action by drivers and conductors. General manager Leighton Williams, and other managers from MoBay Metro, have extended themselves to provide services to the public, with specific focus on students. Six schools are being targeted, namely, Knockalva High, Anchovy High, Ruseas High, William Knibb High, Spot Valley High, and Hopewell High in the evenings.
The services are expected to continue until the issues being faced are resolved.
Drivers and conductors from the company unexpectedly withdrew their services on September 3, 2018, severely disrupting back-to-school commuting.
The Ministry of Transport and Mining has since intervened, requesting a submission of an analysis of the claim from the company for presentation to the Ministry of Finance and the Public Service.
The ministry continues to monitor the situation and is working to find solutions for all parties invoved.
