Gregory Haughton-Shaw, the St James man who reportedly tried to bribe a police officer after his motor vehicle was seized, had his matter set for sentencing on October 5 when he appeared in the St James Parish Court last Friday.

Haughton-Shaw, a 40-year-old car salesman of Irwin, St James, had previously pleaded guilty to breaching Section 14 of the Corruption Prevention Act.

It is alleged that on May 28, a police team was on patrol along the Coral Gardens main road when they observed a motor vehicle with an obscured licence plate being driven by Haughton-Shaw. He was stopped and given a ticket, and the vehicle was seized and taken to the pound.

Later that same day, the accused saw the lawman at the Blue Diamond Shopping Centre and offered him J$10,000 to release the vehicle.

He was subsequently arrested and charged by members of the Major Organised Crime and Anti-Corruption Agency.

When Haughton-Shaw's case was mentioned on Friday, it was disclosed that the probation office had not yet completed his social enquiry report, which had been requested by the court to assist in determining his sentence.

Hence, presiding parish judge Sandria Wong-Small instructed Haughton-Shaw to return to court on October 5.

His bail was extended, and the investigating officer was bound over.
