St Elizabeth woman goes missing

Fifty-two-year-old Una Samuels of Hodgesland district in Giddy Hall, St Elizabeth, has been missing since Thursday, October 11.

She is of dark complexion and medium build.

Reports from the Black River police are that Samuels was last seen at home about 6 p.m., wearing a red blouse, long, black skirt and a pair of black slippers. All efforts to contact her have proven futile.

Anyone knowing the whereabouts of Una Samuels is being asked to contact the Black River police at 876-965-2232, police 119 emergency number or the nearest police station.

Anti-gang law to be reviewed 

The Criminal Justice (Suppression of Criminal Organisations) Act, popularly called the 'anti-gang' legislation, is to be reviewed and amended.

This was disclosed by Prime Minister Andrew Holness during the sitting of the House of Representatives on Tuesday.

The act makes provision for the disruption and suppression of criminal organisations and outlines offences, in order to restore a sense of security in the Jamaican society and strengthen the capacity of law-enforcement agencies to deal with crime effectively.

"We have named the committee and, very shortly, the minister of national security should be calling the committee to sit, to start the review of the legislation," Holness said.

Gov't committed to strengthening infrastructure

Industry, Commerce, Agriculture and Fisheries Minister Audley Shaw says the Government remains dedicated to strengthening the country's regulatory, standardisation and conformity framework to facilitate trade, accelerate economic development, and improve the quality of life for all Jamaicans.

His remarks were delivered by acting permanent secretary in the ministry, Andrene Collings, at the Bureau of Standards Jamaica 12th annual National Quality Awards ceremony and banquet at The Jamaica Pegasus hotel, New Kingston, on Tuesday.

"We are committed to the development of our national quality capabilities and competence and the provision of a competitive trade environment, based on internationally accepted standards and principles," Shaw pointed out.

Bartlett has high hopes for cruise ship sector

Tourism Minister Edmund Bartlett says 2018 is poised to be another excellent year for Jamaica's cruise ship sector, with vessels from the world's largest cruise companies expected to call at the island's main ports.

Carnival, Royal Caribbean and Norwegian cruise lines have all committed to having some of their biggest ships calling at Falmouth, Ocho Rios and Montego Bay, solidifying Jamaica as a first-choice cruise destination.

A total of 1.92 million cruise passengers visited the island last year, up 11 per cent from 1.65 million in 2016. In addition, spending per visitor increased to US$91.67 from US$90.24.

Cash Pot players win big money

Cash Pot players islandwide have racked up more than a billion dollars in winnings at the end of the third week of Supreme Ventures' latest promotion, Cash Pot Mega Pot, which kicked off on September 23.

In the three weeks since the start of the promotion, players have bagged $1.297 billion. The promotion is scheduled to end by the end of this week.

The Mega Pot promotion features three Mega Balls, Gold, Silver and Green. The ball machine contains five balls, three Mega Balls (gold, silver and green) and only two white balls. Players have an increased chance of 'catching' a Mega Ball in every draw, and more cash has been paid out on the classic Gold Ball.
