A St James Police constable who was supposed to be sentenced in the St James Parish Court yesterday for Breaches of the Corruption Act and attempting to pervert the course of justice, had his sentencing postponed.

The accused, Kirton Green, who was stationed at the Freeport Police Station in Montego Bay, pleaded guilty to the charges on his last court appearance last Wednesday.

Reports are that in 2017, a sergeant was dealing with a case at the Freeport station, which involved a prisoner who was placed in custody.

It is further reported that Green then offered to bribe the sergeant to compromise the investigation.

The sergeant made a report to detectives attached to the Major Organised Crime and Anti-Corruption Agency, and Green was taken into custody during a police dragnet which was staged along a section of the Freeport roadway.

He was held while handing money to the sergeant.

Upon his appearance for sentencing on Monday, Green's lawyer Adrian Days asked the presiding judge to grant him more time.

Green had his bail extended until January 10, when he his to return for sentencing.
