Farmer found dead in Portland

Residents of Boundbrook in Portland are now in shock following the death of 59-year-old Delroy Smart.

Reports from the police's Corporate Communications Unit are that Smart was found at about 10 a.m. on Thursday lying face down on a bed underneath a shed in the community. Blood was seen coming out of his mouth.

The police were called to the scene after his body was found.

According to one resident, Smart was a farmer who did not make trouble in the community

“He was like a godfather to us. He doesn’t walk and make trouble in the community. Whenever anybody has an issue, you can go and talk and reason wid him,” the resident said.

The resident said that she is saddened by what took place because she saw Smart the Wednesday before his untimely death.

“Nobody knows what happened to him,” she said.

The Port Antonio police are investigating the matter.
