Emotional farewell for Jacquiline Cargill

Family and friends on Saturday said goodbye to Jacqeuline Angela Cargill, the woman who was murdered at her business place on Foreshore Road in Falmouth, Trelawny, on November 2, 2018.

In an emotionally charged funeral that took place at First Assembly Church in Falmouth, Cargill, who is affectionately called 'Jackie', was remembered as an astute businesswoman and loving mother.

"My mother loved her three children. She made us feel special," Melonie Lewin, the eldest of Cargill's children said.

"Everyone's birthday was celebrated with an intimate dinner. Mommy, when you spoke with her, made you feel all your problems would go away. She gave logical and emphatic words of encouragement," Lewin added.

Born on August 23, 1968, Cargill is the second of six children for Merline Chickory and Trevor Cargill. She grew up in Redwood, St Catherine, and went to Redwood All-Age and then Dinthill Technical High School.

Lewin said her mother always wanted to be independent, hence her entry into business.

"Operating her own business was at the top of the list. She started in cosmetology, then car rental, before adding a car wash to the rental business," Lewin said.

At the time of her death, Cargill owned Jackie's Car rental and Car Wash.

According to police reports, three gunmen entered Cargill's business place and opened fire, hitting her. Two of the gunmen were shot by a licensed firearm holder. The third person has since turned himself into the police.

Dennis Seivewright, a long-time friend of Cargill's, remembered her for the kindness and the love she gave to others.

"She was never short on encouragement. Jackie had an eye for business and was always looking for the next opportunity. That friendly smile and optimistic outlook on life will long be remembered," Seivewright said.

Her body was interred at the Hillview Memorial Gardens, Moore Park, St James.
