Valentine’s Day is extra special for Pastor Earlmont Williams and his wife, Sydonie Williams. It was on this day 15 years ago that the couple got married in an intimate ceremony at the Eastwood Park New Testament Church of God in St Andrew.

For the pastor, choosing to get married on the day love is celebrated made their nuptial even more special.

“I thought that it was a very special day in which love is highlighted and celebrated, and because of how special it is, we decided to get married on the day,” said the clergyman, who is the overseer for Georges Valley District of Churches in Manchester

But for his wife, celebrating their wedding anniversary and Valentine’s Day on one day is very convenient.

“One stone to kill the two birds,” she said.

The couple met in 1997 while they were attending the Bethel Bible College. According to Sydonie, the pastor trainee caught her eyes.

HAS NO REGRETS

“I had my eyes on him. I admired him. He was the brightest person in the college at the time. We were placed on kitchen duty together, and there we were in the kitchen washing dishes, and I was like, ‘I really like this guy’,” she said.

Eventually their friendship blossomed into romance.

Two children later, and the couple has no regrets.

“Our faith in God has kept our marriage intact. We’ve been through a lot of stones, we’ve had a lot of clashes and conflicts. But at the end of the day, we work things out because we believe strongly that when we said ‘I do”, we meant it for life,” Sydonie said.

Describing himself as a romantic person, Pastor Williams said that he often showers his wife with gifts and outings on their special day. Today will be no different.

“We will be going out. I will buy her something as usual, and we’ll have a wonderful time,” he said.
