After more than 16 years of searching, Everoy Small of Epping Forest, Manchester, has finally found love. The 47-year-old farmer is set to marry his fiancée, Erica Swaby, whom he met just over a year ago.

According to Small, finding love is his best achievement to date. A devout Christian, Small said it was important for him to find a Christian wife. When inside the church proved futile, Small decided to date non-Christians. However, he said the women he encountered were more interested in what he had.

“All these years, I work and sought out mi self, build a house, but all a dem other woman neva suit mi. Wi get along but after a while mi realise seh dem not good, cause what they were looking for was just to prey on me, so I had to let dem go,” he said.

And when he was almost on the brink of giving up, he met his fiancée, 41-year-old Swaby.

“It is a mystery, a God himself dweet,” he said.

Small said Swaby, a mother of four from Bethany in Manchester, possesses the one quality he had been searching for all these years.

“She’s a Christian and me is a Christian. God is in, and with all that’s going on, wi want him in the midst,” he said.

The couple was introduced to each other more than a year ago by Small’s cousin, who gave him Swaby’s number.

Swaby, who is a preacher, said they spoke frequently over the phone about God. And after a month, they decided to meet, but she already knew he was her husband.

“I had a dream, with my husband wearing a particular shirt, and when Eva (Small) come to my house, he was wearing the exact shirt like the man in my dream. And when he invite me to his house and I went there, I could tell the taxi man where to stop, cause I see his house in a dream” she said

Her dream became reality when after six months in the relationship, Small popped the question.

“Mi invite har ova mi house, mi cook some steam fish, okra, and yam. Mi kneel and ask her, can you marry mi now, and she said yes,” he said.

Yesterday, on the eve of Valentine’s Day, Small and Swaby were busy shopping for their wedding this Saturday. And they couldn’t be more excited. “Cya wait for the wedding, I’m looking forward to everything,” she said.

Small, who currently doesn’t have any children, said he’s looking forward to starting a family.

“Dat is my priority now, to have a child, or maybe two. But mi nah go too far. Wherever the Lord lead me,” he said.
