Teenage girl jailed for illegal gun

A female teen was taken into custody by officers assigned to the St. Catherine North Police Division in relation a firearm seizure on Wellington Street, Spanish Town, St. Catherine on Tuesday, February 19.

The police say that a team was on patrol in the area when they saw the teenager who aroused their suspicion. She was accosted, searched and one Browning 9mm was found in a bag she was carrying. She has been subsequently taken into custody, however her identity is being withheld pending investigations.

"She was in the company of males. A pistol was taken from her. She was picked up and then others were held subsequently," Assistant Commissioner of Police Gary Griffiths said.
