Cops chasing leads in St Elizabeth triple killing

March 27, 2019

A senior lawman in the St Elizabeth Police Division said that the cops expect to have “substantial leads” related to Sunday’s murders in the usually quiet parish.

After a relatively calm start to 2019, three men were killed on Sunday in two incidents.

Those killed have been identified as 18-year-old Malix Cameron, a labourer of Bogue district in St Elizabeth; 28-year-old Trevor Powell, a landscaper of Goshen district; and 34-year-old Donovan Samuels, a fisherman of Whitehouse, Westmoreland, and Campbell Town, St Elizabeth addresses.

“The police will not be sitting down and allowing criminals and gunmen to override the parish. We will now be carrying out a series of investigations, and we expect to have substantial leads which can assist our investigators in bringing those responsible to justice in adequate time,” the officer said.

GOOD RECORD

The senior officer said that the three killings have dampened the almost-perfect record which has usually been maintained.

“While other parishes are way over the line when it comes to murders, the parish of St Elizabeth had maintained a very good record since the start of the year. So far, St Elizabeth had only reported four murders being committed, and these three unfortunate weekend murders have now taken the tally to seven,” the officer lamented.

According to reports, the first pair of killings took place at 7:55 p.m., when residents of Bogue heard explosions in the community and raised an alarm.

CRIME SCENE

The police were summoned and on their arrival, Cameron and Powell were seen lying along the roadway in a pool of blood with gunshot wounds to their upper bodies.

Both men were pronounced dead at hospital.

In the second incident, Samuels and a group of men were in a yard in Campbell Town playing cards, when they were ambushed by three armed men who opened fire, hitting Samuels multiple times in his upper body.

The gunmen escaped on foot, Samuels was transported to hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
