38 guns, 520 bullets seized in St James in 100 days

As the St James police continue their drive to rid the parish of illegal firearms, the Freeport police in Montego Bay have revealed that their 'Get The Guns' campaign has resulted in 38 guns and 520 rounds of ammunition being seized over the past 100 days.

The most recent seizure took place at a premises along Ducketts Road in Cambridge last Thursday.

Reports are that a joint military operation was carried out at a premises in the community, where a Colt AR-15 assault rifle fitted with an empty magazine was found.

Prior to that seizure, five persons, including a female, were taken into custody following the seizure of a 9mm pistol at a bar on Orange Street in Montego Bay.

Reports are that at approximately 3:30 p.m., a joint military operation was carried out at the bar where the five occupants were seen.

A search of the establishment led to the discovery of a Taurus 9mm semi-automatic pistol, fitted with a magazine containing five live rounds.

One police source told WESTERN STAR that the St James Police Division has seen a major increase in firearm seizures since the start of the year.
