Principal of May Pen High School Winston Preddie is saying that unless murderers get what they deserve, crime will continue.

A visibly upset Preddie was speaking yesterday after the body of one of his students, 17-year-old Stefica Smith, was found in bushes in the Four Paths area. She was last seen at 1 p.m. last Saturday.

Preddie said that until the Government gets stricter on punishment for offenders, then he is afraid of the outcome.

"Tell me what we gonna do? And we gonna go back to Parliament, we gonna pass some nice laws to take care of people's psychological affairs and we are gonna die one by one and nothing is gonna change," he said.

Community shaken

Preddie said news of Stefica's death has shaken the whole school community in the midst of students now writing their Caribbean Secondary Examination Council exams.

He accompanied Stefica's father Maurice to the hospital, and described the gruesome sight at the crime scene.

"It was a terrible sight, her face is mashed up, her eyes pulp and her throat slashed," he said.

Preddie described Stefica as "a very nice behaving girl." He said that she was born in England, but came to Jamaica when her parents returned home.

Preddie said the school was getting ready to mobilise a search with her father when they got the news about the body being discovered.

Stefica's father was too broken up to speak.
