A 49-year-old man, his wife, and another male who were being sought by the Freeport police for questioning in connection with the chopping death of a mentally challenged man in Hendon, Norwood, St James, last Saturday, turned themselves over to the police on Sunday afternoon.

The deceased has been identified as 35-year-old Jermaine Street, unemployed of Stone Wall in Hendon, Norwood.

Reports by the police are that about 10:15 a.m., Street, who resides with his uncle, got involved in an argument with the accused and his wife for allegedly damaging sections of the couple's home.

The accused then contacted Street's father and told him about the incident, seeking compensation.

The father told the accused that he would be coming to the community, and as soon as he got there he would inspect the house and pay for the damages.

On reaching the house, Street's father asked his mother where he was. She informed him that she saw the accused, his wife and another man, armed with machetes, coming through the fencing to their yard.

After a search of the yard, Street's body was discovered in a pool of blood with multiple chop wounds.

The police were summoned and Street was transported to hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

The police then searched for the three persons without success.

One senior police officer told the WESTERN STAR that the accused's wife and the other male suspect are still being questioned.
