The Sandy Bay police in Hanover say they have now taken two security guards into custody in connection with the stabbing murder of a shopkeeper in Hopewell, in the parish yesterday morning.

The deceased has been identified as Miguel 'Musle Man' Brivette, of Pond Piece, in Hopewell.

Reports by the police are that about 7 a.m., Brivette and the two guards got involved in an argument, allegedly over a music system.

During the dispute, Brivette and the men were standing along the Pond Piece main road, in the vicinity of the Hopewell Seventh-day Adventist Church, when knives were drawn, and Brivette was stabbed multiple times.

Handed themselves over

He fell to the ground, while the two accused jumped in a motor vehicle, and reportedly drove to the Sandy Bay Police Station, and handed themselves over to the police.

Over the past three months, six persons have been killed in Hopewell and the surrounding communities, and residents say they are now very concerned.

"Mi naw tell you no lie, Missa Reporta, the state a public emergency inna Hanover naw help wi one bit," one community member, who gave his name as Robert told THE STAR. "A just wha day dem kill a youth inna the square inna him bus, and then another one inna Bamboo. The man dem come wid the state a emergency, and den three more youth dead like a bird. So a weh the soldier and the police dem deh?"

He added: "Seet deh now dem stab up Musle Man. Him is a good youth, him don't give trouble, him barely talk to people. Him is just a youth who start him likkle shop, mine him own business."

Robert also criticised what he considered the lack of presence of the joint security forces.

"Wi naw si no police inna day, none at all. Di only time wi si dem is a night time when dem a drive round and a lock down people business place," he said.

Since the start of the year, 17 persons have been murdered in Hanover.
