Male held with identity information walks free

A Trelawny man who was arrested in 2017 for possession of identity information walked out of the Trelawny Circuit Court a free man following a no-evidence motion from the prosecution last Wednesday.

Rohan Clarke, who was charged with possession of identity information, was freed of the charge when he appeared before Presiding High Court Justice Lorna-Shelly Williams.

Allegations are that on September 15, 2017, members of a police team in Trelawny stopped a minibus on which Clarke was a passenger and carried out a search of the vehicle.

During the search, a notebook with overseas information inside it was found in a knapsack that was in Clarke’s possession. He was subsequently arrested and charged.

In court last Wednesday, the prosecution informed Justice Williams that they would not be pursuing their case against Clarke as the notebook reportedly bore the name of another man who was detained at the time of Clarke’s arrest.The prosecution also said that based on its information, the other man had reportedly indicated that he gave the notebook to Clarke to put in his knapsack.

Following this revelation, Williams issued a not-guilty verdict for Clarke.

“The Crown has offered no evidence against you, so you are discharged,” Williams said.
