St James teacher robbed of $260,000 in cash, valuables

The Spring Mount police in St James say they are now in search of three men who robbed a female teacher of cash and valuables amounting to more than $250,000 on Saturday.

The 50-year-old teacher, who hails from Port district, was also robbed of her 2012 Nissan Tiida motor car, which was later found abandoned at a section of the same community.

"The police need fi have more patrol in the area, because a nuff robberies a gwaan inna the area since the start of the year," one female shopkeeper told WESTERN STAR. "A nuff people a get rob. Mi even haffi a lock up early inna the evening because a the worthless boy dem, all dem want do a get things free and don't want work."

The shopkeeper also said the teacher is a good woman who did not deserve this and could have lost her life.

One senior detective told WESTERN STAR that the incident has been reported at the Freeport and Spring Mount police stations, and an investigation has now been launched.

AWARE OF ROBBERIES

"We are aware of these robberies which have been taking place in the Spring Mount policing area over a period of time, but we are working with strong leads, and hope to apprehend these robbers in short order," the cop stated.

Reports are that on Saturday about 7:30 p.m., the teacher parked her vehicle in her home in Port, and was about to enter her house when she was ambushed by three men, two of whom were armed with handguns.

The robbers proceeded to rob the teacher of more than $80,000 in cash, and jewellery and cellular phones valued at more than $180,000.

The men escaped in her motor car which they later discarded.
