Man charged with beating pregnant wife

July 30, 2019

A St James man who accused his pregnant wife of having an affair, and then beating her until she ended up in the Cornwall Regional Hospital, was arrested and charged by the Granville police on Sunday evening.

The police say the accused, 22-year-old AndreVaugn Carey, a student of Montego Bay West Village, in Granville, has been charged with assault occasioning bodily harm, and he is scheduled to appear in the St James Parish Court later this week.

When the WESTERN STAR visited the community on Monday morning, very few persons were seen in the area, but we were able to speak to another couple who told our news team that they know the accused man very well.

Reports by the police are that the young couple have been having marital issues for some time now, and shortly after 4 p.m., on Sunday, another dispute developed between them where the husband accused his four month-old pregnant wife of being unfaithful.

The argument resulted in Carey attacking his wife and landing several punches, and slaps to her body, including her stomach.

She was rushed to the Cornwall Regional Hospital where she was treated. A report was later made to the police, and following an investigation, Carey was arrested and charged.

The St James police say they are encouraging couples with domestic issues to visit the relevant groups, organisations, and bodies to get counselling, in order to avoid incidents such as this.
