Stunt driver gets off with an apology

A public apology! That was all that was required of Dennis Dietrih, personal assistant to West Indies cricketer Andre Russell, whose careless driving last Friday caused police to demand that he turn himself in for questioning.

Dietrih's black Mercedes Benz motor car was captured on video performing a donut stunt at the intersection of Dunrobin Avenue and Lindsay Crescent in St Andrew. The video went viral on social media.

On Tuesday, Dietrih agreed to meet with the head of the Public Safety and Traffic Enforcement Branch of the Jamaica Constabulary Force, Assistant Commissioner of Police, Bishop Dr Gary Welsh at the location where the infraction took place. He apologised for his careless driving.

"I was doing some fun with the car because it’s a fast car. I found out that it’s something really wrong I did. I’m so sorry about it, and it will never happen again,” he said.
The police did not press charges.
