Two guns seized out west

Two firearms have seized in western Jamaica by the police. One man is in custody following the seizure of a firearm in Spicy Hill, Duncans, Trelawny on Wednesday, and another was locked up following the recovery of a Parabellum 9mm pistol in Negril, Westmoreland on Thursday.

In the Spicy Hill incident, the Duncans police said that about 11:25 p.m., a team of officers was on patrol in the area when they heard explosions in the vicinity. They responded and on their arrival, a man was seen standing beside a motor car. On the approach of the lawmen, he allegedly removed a firearm from his waistband and attempted to dispose of it.

The firearm was retrieved and found to be a Taurus 9mm pistol. He was subsequently arrested, however, his identity is being withheld pending further investigations.

In the Negril incident, one man was taken into custody in connection with the seizure of a Parabellum 9mm pistol along with five 9mm rounds of ammunition.

Reports from the Negril Police are that a team of officers was on an operation in the area when they were alerted to the transportation centre where a dispute, involving a firearm, was in progress. On their arrival, the area was searched and the firearm and ammunition found beneath a house in the vicinity. The identity of the man taken into custody is being withheld pending further investigations.
