St James records 112th homicide

October 02, 2019

A gunman killed a motorist yesterday morning on Hart Street in Montego Bay.

The victim has been identified as 36-year-old Rollin Walker, otherwise called 'Superman', of a McCatty Street address, also in Montego Bay.

Reports by the Barnett Street police are that shortly after 9 a.m., Walker was driving a Toyota motor car down Hart Street, heading towards downtown Montego Bay.

On reaching an intersection, one man armed with a handgun opened the rear door of Walker's car and shot him multiple times in the head, before fleeing the scene on foot.

The police were summoned and upon arrival, the scene was processed and Walker was transported to the Cornwall Regional Hospital where he was pronounced dead.

Investigators say Walker has been in and out of hot water with the law, and he was also reporting on condition of bail in connection to a gun relented incident for which he was arrested and charged.

"The gunman dem nu fraid again, dem a come out inna broad daylight come kill people so everyone fraid fi talk", one vendor told THE STAR. "Everybody hear the gunshot dem, and the wul a wi run go hide and wi si wen the gunman just run pass wid the gun inna him hand."

The vendor said that state of public emergency declared for western parishes is a waste of time.

"Look how man a kill man inna broad daylight. Weh the police and soldier dem deh? Not even one a dem inna sight." the vendor said.

Walker was the third person to be killed in the parish over the past 24-hours, and the 112th murder victim in St James since the start of the year.

On Sunday evening, an unidentified male was discovered with multiple gunshot wounds beside an abandoned bus along Home Hill Road in Ironshore. He later died at hospital.

Another man, Orlando Henningham of Marl Road in Montpellier, St James, was discovered shot to death in his home, in Marl Road, on Monday.
