‘Coronavirus nah stop me’ - Father of missing UWI student intensifies hunt for daughter

It has been two weeks and still there is no sign of 22-year-old Jasmine 'Maya' Deen. And with the novel coronavirus (COVID-19) dominating the news and social media right now, Lloyd Deen, her father, is not prepared to allow it to drown out his voice as he screams for help to find Maya.
"Coronavirus nah stop me. Me still a hunt fi me daughter! Dis nah distract we and me nah worry bout that. We a try work hard same way and, if we keep on work, we a guh come up with something," the Bull Bay, St Andrew, resident told THE WEEKEND STAR.
Maya, a visually impaired student of The University of the West Indies (UWI), Mona, has been missing since Thursday, February 27.
"We just have to put it in God hands and just wait, because sometime you just have to have a little patience. Yuh hear from the Lord, 'Be of good courage.'"
Lloyd says he had a meeting with detectives yesterday, and was assured that finding his daughter is still a priority.
"Me talk to them and them seh they are still working. Dem reach all a Mandeville, so the arrangement is fi meet them up there today," he said.
$350,000 reward
The UWI, members of the Bluedot Comuna and concerned citizens are offering a $350,000 reward, through Crime Stop, to anyone who has information that leads to Jasmine's whereabouts. Also, the Marlon Samuels foundation is offering $100,000.
Lloyd is aware of these money rewards geared towards finding his daughter. He says he is grateful.
"Is like dem feel it and dem want her fi come back. Money can't buy her back, but sometime money can help. Probably money can help me fi get her back, so me appreciate that," he said.
"We affi save one another ... we have to help one another. We have to spread good things ... we nuh spread bad things."
