Six new COVID-19 cases in Jamaica

Health Minister Dr Chris Tufton has reported an additional six cases of the coronavirus in Jamaica. He says all six are from the community of Corn Piece in Clarendon, which is now under quarantine. This has pushed to 44, the total number of confirmed COVID-19 cases in Jamaica.

The Health Minister says medical officials are monitoring 69 households in Portland Cottage, Clarendon, and further actions may be taken in that community. To date, 279 persons have been interviewed in that location and seven persons have been placed in isolation.

Tufton also stated that the patient who died today was a 41-year-old male from Westmoreland. He had underlining conditions. He developed renal failure and died. He had a travel history from the United Kingdom. He is the third person to die from the coronavirus in Jamaica.

Tufton also stated the Ministry of Health is hoping to roll out mobile testing this coming weekend. Persons with the desire to be tested will be examined, if they meet certain requirements, samples will be taken and the test administered.
