Seven recover from COVID-19, but Jamaica now has 53 confirmed cases

Health Minister Dr. Christopher Tufton reports that six more people have tested positive for COVID-19 in Jamaica. This pushes to 53, the number of confirmed cases on the island.

Meanwhile, seven people who were isolated and treated, have now recovered and subsequently released, including 'Patient 1.'

The Minister made the annoucements at a digital press briefing a short while ago. 

The new cases include:

• A 57-year-old male from Manchester, who is the contact of a confirmed case;


• A 57-year-old male from Kingston and St. Andrew, who is a contact of a confirmed case;

• A 40-year-old male from Kingston and St. Andrew whose mode of transmission is under investigation;

• A 23-year-old male from Clarendon who is the contact of a confirmed case;

• A 42-year-old male from Clarendon who has a travel history to the United States;

• A 22-year-old female from Clarendon who is a contact of a confirmed case.


The Minister shared that Jamaica has now tested 540 samples, including samples tested for Severe Acute Respiratory Infections. Among the samples are the 53 confirmed positives; 484 negatives; while three results are pending.  

 

The Minister also announced that the community of Corn Piece, in Clarendon, will be quarantined for an extended 14 day period.
