After receiving assistance when her story was first published months ago, a mother battling cancer has run into a new obstacle.

The story of Marvette Johnson, 45, was first highlighted in THE STAR on January 6 as she begged for somewhere to live with her two daughters.

She stated that a few days after the article was published, she received assistance from a good Samaritan who offered her a room to stay at an unfinished home that she was constructing in St Andrew.

I begged and pleaded

"We were staying there, but a few days after it was announced that corona was in Jamaica, she told us we have three weeks to leave because she wanted to construct the roof. I begged and pleaded for more time, and she gave us, but that time has expired as well. So now, I have packed our stuff up in a barrel, but I don't have anywhere to go," said Johnson.

With an already compromised immune system, Johnson's fears of being chased from their current abode weigh heavily on her head. She is again seeking the public's intervention in securing a dwelling.

"I just want a permanent home for us. My girls are very strong, and although I know that they are not broken, they are very shaken. I woke up with a fever this morning (Friday) because I am currently doing chemotherapy, and I am in a lot of pain probably because I haven't slept much in the past week because I am so stressed," she said.

Johnson said she had got a section of land from someone else and was promised assistance by another individual but there is no timeline for that.

"I know COVID is slowing up a lot of things, so I don't know how long that is going to take. But I really need somewhere to stay, like, now. I don't want my kids to be living in the streets," she said.
