Mohayne Ricketts, 17, a grade 11 student at St Mary High School, is hoping that someone will helping him continue his education.

The youngster, who lives with his mother and two of his siblings in Guy's Hill, St Mary, says he is struggling to keep up with online schooling because he does not own a technological device.

He has to walk almost two miles daily to neighbouring Springfield to borrow a phone from a schoolmate to complete assignments.

"I am from a poor family ... . I am seeking help to solve this current situation," he told THE STAR. "I'm doing the business subjects, but I want to join the army after I finish school."

Though his schoolmate has been helpful, Mohayne admits that the reality of his situation is overly cumbersome.

"I can only do this (walk to the other house) three times a week and, therefore, learning is not efficient," said Mohayne, noting that he stays home and studies on the other days of the school week.

"My younger sister is having similar challenges," he said. "I would be very grateful if someone could take into consideration my challenge and help me try to fix it."

Mohayne's mother, Lorna Williams, who only has a 'banger' phone, is now out of a job as a result of the coronavirus, creating hardship for her family.

"Before COVID, me used to look after a baby and me used to get like $2,500 a week. But her mommy is a teacher, and since school dismissed because of COVID, she take her. So me nuh have her again," she said.

Persons wishing to assist Mohayne can contact his mother at 876-804-0686.
