30 years of pain - Woman crippled by swollen legs

June 25, 2020

For the past 30 years, 68-year-old Irene Davis has been living in pain, after both her feet have swollen enormously.

Her plight started in 1990, when she noticed a leaking pimple on one of her feet. In quick time, another pimple appeared on the other foot, and that brought on a ton load of pain and worry.

"Doctors seh it's bad circulation and I have been getting tablets for that. But all now I don't see any changes or improvements," Davis told THE STAR.

"They are still swollen same way and at times they pain me, especially when I sit down long and then have to get up and move off. I don't know what further steps to take. I don't know what to do. I have been like this for 30 years now," she said.

I just see a pimple come up

When the pimples started growing, the Arnett Gardens resident abandoned home remedies, and decided to visit the hospital.

"One day I just see a pimple come up on my right foot and it start to pain me. When I look, the pimple get bigger and it start to run water. Then around the back, it buss. From that, it reach the next one too and buss. So I went to the hospital," she said.

"For years, I have been going to the doctor and the clinic and it cost me a lot. Even worse, I don't see any progress all now. I can walk and I give God thanks for that. Another good thing is I don't have to buy the medication. I get medication free."

Three years ago, Davis was left panicking as the pain rose to an all-time high, leaving her immobile.

"I was admitted in 2017 because I couldn't walk. Dem (feet) did swell up big, big. It was worse than this because it even look like the skin did strip off," she recalled.

She added, "I used to go clinic every week, but they put me for every Tuesday and Thursday recently. For check-up at the doctor now, I have to go Friday coming and then next week again ... that cost me a lot. I can move around, I can do my work and thing. The only thing is I can't go too long because the pain make me tired. I do a little babysitting in the community to earn a little money."
