PNP’s Wint cries foul over Alexandria land allocation
The People's National Party's caretaker for South West St Ann, Val Wint, is alleging that families that were previously allotted lands in Alexandria are being locked out of an open market development that is about to take place in the area.
Wint, who is seeking to unseat the Jamaica Labour Party's Zavia Mayne, said that undeveloped lots were allocated to families in the farming belt in 2005 after they were displaced by bauxite mining. He accused the Andrew Holness administration of turning its back on "people who have been waiting and hoping for help with housing", which he said is "cruel for a government who claims that it cares".
According to Wint, the infrastructural plan for lands in Alexandria was approved by the parish council for the resettlement of some 150 families in 2012.
"These small farmers have been waiting for help to build their houses for a long time but the Government now comes with a project which overlooks them and disregards the sacrifice made by the generations of their families," Wint said.
