Husband charged with burning wife to death

A St Ann man who allegedly set fire to a shop with his wife inside, resulting in her death, has been charged with murder by the St Ann detectives.

The accused is 36-year-old Crangain Rattray of Seville Heights in Priory. He has also been charged with assault occasioning grievous bodily harm and arson.

Reports are that about noon on August 1, Rattray had a disagreement with his spouse, Racquel Rattray, allegedly about monies raised from the opening of their shop.

The disagreement reportedly escalated and he allegedly poured gasolene into the shop and set it ablaze with his wife locked inside.

A report was made to the police and Rattray was picked up at home later the same day and subsequently charged. Racquel, who was rushed to hospital, died on August 10.

Rattray’s court date is being finalised.
