Coronavirus masks backlash

Halloween masks made to look like coronavirus have been removed by Amazon after a backlash. The masks are shaped like particles of the deadly disease and had been advertised on the site in China.

However, it has sparked anger as it makes light of COVID-19.

Rachel Power, chief executive of the Patients Association, told The Sun newspaper: "These masks show a terrible lapse of judgement by the manufacturers and sellers, and I hope they will be removed from sale quickly.

"I've no doubt the vast majority of people will find them hugely distasteful, and I can't imagine that many people would wish to wear one."

A spokesperson for Amazon said: "All sellers must follow our selling guidelines and those who do not will be subject to action, including potential removal of their account.

"We are removing this product."

'Shoot the puck' ... Cops though hockey fan was talking about guns

A hockey fan received a visit from police after his passion was mistaken for a domestic dispute. Devon Garnett was supporting his beloved Tampa Bay Lightning in the Stanley Cup Final when he shouted "Shoot! Shoot!" at the television.

Police soon turned at his home after receiving a report from a neighbour.

Garnett explained: "They came to the door and thought there were guns in the house.

"We're like, 'Nope, we're just screaming for Steven Stamkos'."

Devon revealed that the officers saw the funny side of the incident once things became clear.

He said: "(The police) completely understood and just laughed it off. But they thought I was serious because I was screaming 'Shoot!' as in 'Shoot the puck'."

Subway rolls lose bread status

The rolls used in Subway's hot sandwiches have been deemed too sugary to be classed as bread. An Irish court made the ruling after a tax dispute, deciding that the rolls cannot be classed as bread due to the high value of sugar - meaning that VAT needs to be paid on the product.

The restaurant franchise seemed to dispute the judgement, stating the product "is, of course, bread".

A Subway spokesperson said: "Subway's bread is, of course, bread.

"We have been baking fresh bread in our stores for more than three decades and our guests return each day for sandwiches made on bread that smells as good as it tastes."

Animal control captures greedy bird

A pear was used to lure an emu running loose in Massachusetts. Animal control officer Michelle Cannon was called out to deal with the runaway bird. She said it was a first, even though she has dealt with bears in the past.

Eyewitness Brianna Smith saw the incident and explained how the fruit helped to capture the emu.

She said: "Normally you're not expecting to see this big, wild bird on someone's front lawn that early in the morning. I thought I was seeing stuff!"

Smith added: "There's a pear tree right next door. She went and got a pear and started feeding him the pear. He was loving it. It got to the point she could just pick him right up and bring to the car."
