The Project for the Advancement of Childhood Education (PACE) Canada, a charitable organisation, has announced its donation of just over J$7 million to the Early Childhood Commission (ECC) in Jamaica.

PACE said that the ECC will undertake the distribution of these funds to 190 kindergarten and infant schools in every parish across the island. However, students remained at home and have been receiving the teaching and learning experience via online platforms and through programmes carried on TV and radio. The education ministry is also distributing learning kits, textbooks and worksheets to students.

PACE Canada President Diana Burke said the funding that has been provided will help early-childhood institutions prepare a safe and sanitised classroom environment, in line with the Government's standards.

"We sincerely thank all our sponsors and friends who have helped to make this donation possible, especially during these difficult times. These funds were donated through PACE's Adopt-A-School Programme and a special COVID-19 campaign," Burke said in a media release.

The president's online report noted further that the PACE Adopt-A-School Programme saw 163 schools receiving donations of over CDN$78,000 (approximately J$78 million) so far this year.
