Jookie Jam wants help to fix his groin area

Derrick Smith, a resident of Third Street in Trench Town, St Andrew, yesterday revelled at the reality that he now has a bed that he likened to a Jacuzzi.

Until recently, Smith, who is known to his friends and neighbours as 'Jookie Jam' or 'Mr Colours', was living in deplorable conditions. However, thanks to the efforts of Trench Town-based charity Kino Life in Jamaica (The Dream Team), his situation has been vastly improved.

"My house was refurbished about a month now. You should have seen the roof. It was very disgraceful. Di piece a bed mi did have in here, whenever time I lay on it, I was just so tormented. Mi twist, mi turn and mi twist, but from I get this Jacuzzi bed here, as I lay on it, I go straight to sleep. Even when my friend in Miami calls to talk to me, they have to be beating down my door, shouting 'Colours, Colours!', because I can't wake man," he shared.

HOPING FOR ANOTHER MIRACLE

The Trench Town Good Samaritans have worked a miracle in Smith's life, and he is hoping for another. The 55-year-old lamented that he hasn't been able to find himself a girlfriend because of an accident he suffered decades ago.

"I got run over by a truck nearly 40 years now," said Smith, who is only able to urinate using a tube that protrudes from his side. He said that his problem could be corrected with surgery.

The doctors said if I got help to go to the United States, they could fix me up back. My dad went to the States and was there for around 15 years and didn't help me. But I never give up, even with the pain and whatever," he told THE STAR.

He prays daily for God to send him help to come up with the funds needed for reconstructive surgery to his groin area.

"Me don't even have a girlfriend, just because of the situation. Is the many friends I have around me why I don't go crazy already. They cheer me up and say 'Jookie, don't bother to take it too hard'. If nuff people did in this situation I am in, them probably woulda dead already, but Him tell me seh don't give up because help is going to come one day," he said.
