Lerline Harris has been having an uneasy feeling for weeks, and on Sunday her worst fears were realised as her son, Glester 'Craige' White, 43, was killed in their St D'Acre, St Ann, district.

"I wasn't that frighten because I was looking forward to something to happen according to some visions that I got. In the vision, it was weeping and mourning so I know something would happen," she said. "My pastor was also seeing some things and we prayed about it and thing." But Harris was still overcome with emotions when news reached her that her third born was struck down by bullets.

"I could feel the impression on my tummy, the pressure come down on me and all I had to just hold it and bare it," said Harris. "I'm doing a bit better now."

Off-duty policeman

Reports from the police's Corporate Communications Unit (CCU) are that about 8:15 a.m., a man identified as 'Craige', was fatally shot during a confrontation with the police. The CCU said the Inspectorate and Professional Standards Oversight Bureau and the Independent Commission of Investigations (INDECOM) are carrying out investigations.

In a release, INDECOM stated that White was shot by an off-duty policeman who intervened in a dispute between White and residents concerning water usage.

Residents allege that White denied a community member access to a tank on his property, saying it was too early to catch water. He allegedly destroyed her bucket with his machete. An argument later started and the woman summoned the policeman who shot White multiple times. He then fell into the tank. The policeman is to be interviewed by INDECOM today.

Angry residents, who are adamant that White was murdered, mounted roadblocks, hampering motorists heading to towns like Brown's Town, Cave Valley and Alexandria.

They also set fire to the policeman's car as well as another house. Meanwhile, Kingsley Wishart, 49, said he was always close to his brother.

"From yesterday me nuh eat and me have to postpone work today to how me feel. Right now me not even think me can go back for the rest of the week," he said.

INDECOM is asking anyone with information to call the entity at (876) 968-8875, (876) 968-1932, or send information via WhatsApp at (876) 553-5555.
