Medical Association of Jamaica concerned about surge in COVID cases

February 09, 2021

The Medical Association of Jamaica (MAJ), has expressed grave concern about the recent surge in new COVID-19 cases across the island.

In a statement, the association said that they believe the increase in infections, is due to a general disregard that has taken root in our society with respect to the guidelines and regulations as stated under the Disaster and Risk Management act.

The statment further urged the Government to act swiftly in implementing more measures to control spread of the virus.

According to the association the time has come to put serious sanctions in place for those who breach regulations.

MAJ also sought to remind Jamaicans that there is an extremely limited capacity in the public health system to deal with new cases.

MAJ's statement concluded by encoruaging Jamaicans to social distance, avoid crowds, wear masks properly whenever leaving their residence, and to use appropriate hand sanitisers, as they implored every citizen to come together to do what is necessary to overcome the crisis.
