Jamaica surpasses 20,000 confirmed COVID cases

Jamaica has surpassed 20,000 confirmed COVID-19 cases, as of the 1,046 samples tested on Tuesday, 243 returned positive results, increasing Jamaica's total cases to 20,016 with 6,696 being active.

Of the new cases, 110 are males and 129 are females, with ages ranging from 38 days to 94 years.

St James recorded the most new cases with 60, followed by Kingston and St Andrew with 52 and Clarendon with 21.

St Mary with three, and Portland with four were the parishes with the least amount of new cases.

In the meantime, there were 51 more recoveries, increasing the total to 12,735.

Some 270 persons are in hospital with 21 being moderately and 23 critically ill.

According to the Ministry of Health, two persons are in government quarantine, while 20,369 are quarantined at home.


In the meantime, three more Jamaicans have died from the virus pushing the death tally to 381.

The deceased are: a 74-year-old male from St. Catherine, a 94-year-old male from Westmoreland, and a 59-year-old male from St. Catherine whose death was previously under investigation.

Five more deaths have been deemed now under investigation for a tally of 45 deaths being probed.
