Horrific crash leaves one dead, children injured
A 16-year-old boy was yesterday hailed as a hero after he pulled three persons from a wrecked vehicle that had crashed into a wall at the intersection of North Street and South Camp Road in Kingston.
The accident, that occurred shortly after 4 p.m., claimed the life of a man and injured at least four others including two children. Kajay White, a student of Calabar High School, said he was inside his house when he heard persons screaming. What he saw when he got outside left him in a state of shock.
"Right now I feel like I'm in a nightmare. Is the first time mi ever see something like this. The man just dead in front of me. I felt like I was in a horror movie. I stuck for a few seconds then I remember that I had to help. So mi and others help to put the rest in vehicles that took them to hospital," White said. An eyewitness told THE STAR that the tragic event would remain fresh in his mind forever.
"Mi hear summen go 'boom' and when mi look, mi see say di car lick up in a median and fly high inna di air and a flip a come down di road, lick out di hydrant, lick down few sign, root out some big stone, and go up in the air again then land inna di wall," he said.
Red shorts that belonged to a child, and other clothing were observed lying close to the wrecked silver Nissan AD wagon, while the body of the deceased lay on the sidewalk close by. Another eyewitness cried as she recalled how one of the children appeared badly injured when he was taken from the wreckage.
"His legs were hanging by a string and he was crying. He was in shock. Jesus mi a pray him and the others live," she said.
