Five arrested in connection with major drug bust in Westmoreland
Five persons were arrested in Westmoreland following a joint police/military operation on Saturday, that resulted in the seziure of six hundred pounds of ganja.
A predawn raid at Ketto district, Springfield in the parish, conducted by members of the Narcotics Division, the St. James Operations Support Unit and the military ended in five persons being taken into custody, in relation to the seizure of the ganja which the police say has an estimated street value of JMD 2.4 million.
Police reports are that during the operation, several premises and a motor car were searched, resulting in the seizure of two 9mm pistols and thirty-five 9mm cartridges and approximately six hundred pounds of cured ganja.
Police say about five hundred ganja plants and an acre of illegal ganja were also destroyed.
The identities of the persons in custody are being withheld pending further investigations.
