Jamaica surpasses 30,000 confirmed COVID cases

Jamaica has surpassed 30,000 confirmed cases of COVID-19, as the country on Saturday recorded 587 positives from a sample of 1,444 tests, bringing confirmed cases to 30,499 with 14,640 being active.

Of the new cases, 255 are males and 332 are females, with ages ranging from six weeks to 95 years.

Kingston and St. Andrew recorded the most new cases with 162, followed by St Catherine with 111 and St Thomas and St Ann with 48 each.

Westmoreland with six, was the only parish to record single digit new infections.

In the meantime, there were 80 more recoveries, increasing the total to 15,139.

The number of persons in hosptials has increased to 366, with 24 being moderately and 33 critically ill.

Meanwhile, a 72-year-old male from St. Catherine is the latest Jamaican to die from the virus moving the death tally to 485. 

According to the Ministry of Health, nine persons are in government quarantine, while 20,347 are quarantined at home.
