Eight more Jamaicans die from COVID, 604 new cases recorded

Eight more Jamaicans have died as a result of COVID-19 pushing the death tally 519. The deaths occured between the period of March 2-17. 

Seven of the deceased are from Kingston and St Andrew, all of them were women aged, 55, 68, 71, 74, 77, 81, and 89, as well as an 80-year-old woman from Hanover. 

Meanwhile, the island recording 604 positive results from a sample of 1,452 tests on Thursday, pushing total confirmed cases to 33,970 with 17,401 active.

Of the new cases, 266 are males and 338 are females, with ages ranging from two days to 96 years.

Kingston and St Andrew recorded the most new cases with 130, followed by St Catherine with 102,  Portland 82, and St Mary with 51. 

St Thomas with four and Hanover with nine were the only parishes to record single digit new infections.

Some 371 patients are hospitalised with 48 being moderately ill and 28 critical.

In the meantime, there were 195 more recoveries, bringing that total to 15,810.

According to the Ministry of Health, three persons are in government quarantine, while 22,905 are quarantined at home.
