Jamaica records 695 new COVID cases, five more deaths

Confirmed COVID-19 cases in Jamaica have surged passed 34,000, as the country recorded 695 positive results from the 1,864 samples tested in the last 24 hours, pushing total cases to 34,665 with 17,958 active. 

Of the new cases, 280 are males and 415 are females, with ages ranging from 8 months to 96 years.

Kingston and St Andrew recorded the most new cases with 207, followed by St Catherine with 135, and St Ann and St James with 81 each. 

Portland with two and Manchester with four were the only parishes to record single digit new infections.

Some 385 patients are hospitalised with 48 being moderately ill and 30 critical.

In the meantime, there were 129 more recoveries, bringing that total to 15,939.

Meanwhile, five more Jamaicans have died as a result of COVID-19 pushing the death tally 524. 

Three of the deceased are women from Kingston and St Andrew aged 59, 71 and 79, while the other two are from St Elizabeth, a 60-year-old woman and a 75-year-old man.

According to the Ministry of Health, three persons are in government quarantine, while 23,922 are quarantined at home.
