289 new COVID cases, nine more deaths

Nine more Jamaicans have died as a result of COVID-19 increasing the death tally to 566.

Four of the deceased are from St Elizabeth, three women aged 88, 62 and 59, and a 92-year-old man.

The other deceased are: two men aged 93 and 69, and two women aged 87 and 69 from Kingston and St Andrew, and an 89-year-old female from Manchester. 

Meanwhile, of the 1,152 samples tested for COVID-19 in Jamaica in the last 24 hours, 289 returned positive results for a total of 37,747 with 19,906 active.

Of the new cases, 126 are males and 163 are females, with ages ranging from 1 year to 99 years.

Kingston and St Andrew recorded the most new cases with 92, followed by St Catherine with 81.

St Ann was the only parish to not record any new infection. 

Some 427 patients are hospitalised, with 45 patients moderately ill and 41 critical.

In the meantime, there were 168 more recoveries, bringing that total to 17,016.

According to the Ministry of Health, five persons are in government quarantine, however, 26,385 are quarantined at home.
