Over 300 prosecuted and warned for breaches of DRMA
The Jamaica Constabulary Force (JCF) is reporting that 12 persons were arrested and charged for breaches of Disaster Risk Management Act, and over 200 persons warned for the prosecution to include party goers, over the past weekend of lockdown Friday, March 26 to 5:00 a.m. Monday, March 29.
Among those arrested were persons who attended illegal parties in St Andrew and Hanover.
The JCF stated that while there was a high level of compliance over the weekend, there are those who continue to be defiant.
"Citizens are being reminded that members of the JCF are authorised to enforce the measures under the Disaster Risk Management Act and take appropriate actions when breaches are detected," a statement from the organisation read.
The police are urging Jamaicans to report all activities that are in contravention to the DRMA, especially in the periods of lockdown that were recently announced.
It added: "The JCF encourages persons who are aware of illegal gatherings or other DRMA breaches to tag them on social media, direct message, or WhatsApp the information on illegal activities on 876-561-5671."
